There are so many factors that contribute to a girl's education in Uganda and to girls ping out of school. Factors like lack of interest, pregnancy, early marriages, hidden costs at school and family responsibilities. The biggest factor being early marriages and pregnancy. Many cultural setting in Uganda stigmatize pre-marital pregnancy among girls both in school and in communities because it is seen as "taboo". A girl who gets pregnant while still at school maybe victimized on immorality grounds. Early pregnancy has been found to cut a girl's education short were girl's withdrew themselves from school after giving birth.
As a foundation we believe a girl is capable of going back to school even after giving birth, there is no age limit to education and that is why we started up this sector to mainly focus on girl child education and also empowering young girls to believe in themselves and fight for their rights. We visit different communities/schools in rural parts of Uganda, and empower young girls through teaching them hands on skills, educate them about the importance of staying in school and give them scholastic materials among other items like reusable pads. We also counsel them and their parents against early marriage and why girl staying in school is just as important as a boy staying in school.
